His research focuses on advancing structural health monitoring and management of bridges and other civil infrastructure assets, specifically through the integration of digital twining technologies, machine learning, laser scanning, precise measurement and 3D reconstruction using drone photogrammetry. His research contributions in these areas have been published in top Q1 journals within the field.

Through the integration of advanced digital technologies and artificial intelligence, he has developed practical solutions for the bridge health monitoring and Decision Support Systems (DSS) to enhance infrastructure monitoring and asset management strategies. Dr Mousavi is also a member of the Structural Engineering and Health Monitoring (SAHM) team at Western Sydney University and has been involved in several research and consulting projects.
